Under the Tents at Fashion Week: Spring 2006

Fashion Week in New York City always has something exciting to offer. Even with the long lines, shows not starting on time and people always sitting in the wrong seat, it’s something that no fashionista should miss! Unfortunately, we all can’t attend thus I thought it would be best to give you an overview of what Spring 2006 has to offer. This season will allow you lots of room for interruption, therefore the rules are simple: find styles that work for you and add key items from last spring. Think outside the box and enjoy reading the best of Spring 2006.

Michael Kors: Michael Kors wanted something different this spring and he got it! His Spring 2006 collection called "romantic optimism," offered the best of Kors. Fun, wearable clothing that wasn’t all flash, but wasn’t boring.

The designer’s mission was to escape the flashy, elite traveler look and design clothing that had the right mix of texture, color and versatility. He mixed austere tailoring with softer pieces, working in black, white and sober neutrals, but touched with just the right amount of sparkle.

One of my favorite looks from this collection is a delicately embroidered chantilly lace shirt dolled up as a sensible khaki skirt. Look after look, Kors showcased terrific pieces rooted in common sense with great colors that was chic and totally wearable.

Narciso Rodriguez: If you like Narciso Rodriguez then you would have enjoyed this show. I’m a fan and I believe he has done it again! Beautiful dresses that look great and fit well too. His ultrachic dresses were structured and springy in cool shades of lilac silks.

Although he didn’t really go outside of the box, he had cool cotton T-shirts paired with fluttering skirts and skinny pants with jackets that offered a little masculine flare.

I look forward to seeing more of Rodriguez’s breathtaking dresses, however I would like to see something else added to whom in my opinion is one of the best designers of all time!

Rebecca Taylor: Rebecca Taylor’s spring collection was a little sweet and a little tomboy. She offered cute minidresses, canvas jackets and playful shirtdresses. Her collection was full of nice details such as eyelets and gold-stitch embroideries. This season, she chose to use colors such as cream, olive, orange and yellow and left behind the pastels colors of past spring seasons.

Tracy Reese: Tracy Reese designs for the fashionista who loves to go out and be seen! This collection is perfect for Spring weddings or The Polo in the Hamptons.

Reese’s collection featured fine detailed slipdresses and gowns. Each was carefully crafted with lots of lace and frills in beautiful Spring shades such as pink, green and blue. I love her structured slim fitted trench coat! If you can only buy one thing this spring, this is it!

Baby Phat: Kimora Lee Simmons’ line is for the glam girl. Like Kimora, she enjoys flashy designer clothes and a killer handbag to compliment each look. Kimora’s collection seems like many we have seen before however, you still have to love the denim minis, skinny jeans and ultra chic jersey tops. Each model was accessorized to the hilt with must have handbags, chunky bangles and aviator sunglasses. Some of the show’s A-list included Puffy, Mary J. Blige and Sir. Elton John. This collection wasn’t the best of fashion week, but it will keep Kimora fans happy.

Luca Luca: I don’t know what was better, the clothing or the A-list front row. This year, the front row included Paris Hilton, the Williams Sisters, Mary J. Blige, Kelly Osborn and Damon Dash. Unfortunately, Luca Luca’s collection didn’t live up to expectation. Usually known for some breathtaking evening wear, this collection deviated from their trademark pieces. Don’t get me wrong, there were lots of pretty clothing like cute strapless dresses and loose cotton cardigans which always look good for spring. Hopefully, next season the clothing will be as strong as their celebrity front row.

Betsey Johnson: If you can’t go to Paris, Betsey Johnson’s show was the next best thing! This collection is for the girl who enjoys sipping on lattes at outdoor cafes. Think ruffles, and beautiful shades of pink, blue and yellow. Betsy keeps the collection fun and youthful with floral-print dresses that ranged from mini to maxi, tulip skirts and cute Swiss dot blouses.

This collection offered so many great looks that it’s almost impossible to choose just one. I fell in love with her long flowing floral-print dress, however I think my favorite look was the mini bubble suits. This look may be hard to wear, but it was just too cute not to notice. This was definitely one of my favorite shows for the season.

For Spring 2006 there are a number of strong trends however, this season you will have countless looks to choose from. With this in mind, finding your personal style will be more important than following the fashion of the season. Remember, fashion will come and go but style will stay with you forever!

Ciao Bella,
