Notables On The Scene: Steve Cover
STEVE COVER
ALADOR & SMITH
VP OF MARKETING, PROMOTIONS & PR
Original sketches doodled on notepads now dangle from clothing racks in stores near and far. The feeling of success is magical; however, maintaining it is far from effortless.
Steve Cover busies himself with marketing, sales, promotions, and public relations work for Alador&Smith (A&S), a contemporary clothing line with sophistication and urban sensibility. A&S reached international status after Cover showcased the company’s work to interested buyers at the Magic Convention, an annual trade show.
Cover matches his business moves with the moves he makes on the
scene. You can find him at nightclubs such as, Cain, Lotus, Marquee and Home hanging out in the VIP section or in the cut
"politicking."
"They cater to a mixed crowd," Cover says. "Different faces and deejays are advantageous from a networking point of view." Tailoring to that perspective, Cover covers himself in any article of A&S clothing, whether it be jeans and a T-shirt or a blazer and button-down.
He parties with his business partners DJ Trauma, AJ (former co-host of BET’s 106 and Park), Camile McDonald of America's Next Top Model, and Mel Testamark, manager of Akademiks Clothing. "One of the best parties I attended was Cain’s first year anniversary for Tuesday nights," he says. A good mix of athletes, actors, music entertainers, and other celebrities attended. "A lot of good looking people were there." Plus, one of his favorite deejays, D-Nice, spun records that night.
He added DJ Goldfinger, DJ Self, DJ Soul, DJ Cassidy, and DJ
Trauma to his list of favorites. He enjoys them because of their
creativity and personal style. "They don’t just play what people want
to hear, but people like it because they know what they are doing," he
says.
Cover stresses the importance of staying true to oneself in such a fast-paced industry. "Be who you are," he says. He describes those who get caught up into portraying a certain persona as "bullshit artists." The ones who experience longevity are focused on fulfilling a dream and realize their self-worth.
Cover continues to make his dreams realer than scrap-paper-sketches by networking with other hardworking individuals everyday.
