Porn Parties, Old School Hip Hop and Little X's B-Day Bash...Whoa!!

Well according to the weather, summer is officially here and we deserved it. It’s been cold outside a bit too long so I welcome it. But these past few days have been brutally humid. I’m talking breaking into full sweats by just standing outside at 2AM. Summer also means lots more parties and this past week I went to my share of good ones. Let’s go to the videotape.
Last Wednesday, I stopped by BLVD for the premier issue release party for Hush Magazine, a new upscale urban adult magazine. It’s supposed to be like a Playboy type rag featuring urban women. After thumbing through a copy a few weeks ago it was a nice look. (But hey, it’s porn, would it not be a nice look?) I was told most of the ladies featured in the magazine are strippers from Sue’s Rendevouz, The Player’s Club and other local strip clubs. So if you frequent these places and don’t want to pay the money for a “private dance” you can purchase a copy and have yourself a dandy time. Usually these porn themed parties are cock-heavy full of guys and a few pieces of eye candy and this was no exception. Check out the pics here if you haven’t already. Notables in the building included Fabolous, John Vasquez (The JV Group), Bryce Wilson, DJ Scratch (X-Factah), BMF’s Blue Davinci, Lil’ Ceas (Jr. Mafia), legendary adult starlet Heather Hunter, Tone Byrd and Ovington Prophet (The Candy Store). After hanging out with a room full of my mistresses, fast forward to Friday to a room full of my wives at Strata (GFC & Patty Laurent). This week was a soft opening for the party and there were some good looking folks in the building especially for a Friday. Hell, we found our Fashionista of the Week, Stephanie Mills there. The evening also served as event marketer Dallas Foster’s (LyonHeart) going away party. For those not aware of him, he’s been responsible for a number of special events, the most recent I remember was a b-day party for the editor of XXL Magazine I believe he was. And yes there were a good number of the Eye Candy feature dimepieces in the building. He will be leaving for Miami to pursue a real estate development project he’s been working on, but he won’t be hanging up his event planner hat yet. He said he already has a few events in the works in South Beach such as the Black Film Festival coming up in a few weeks. We wish you the best in your endeavours. Notables included the Persaud Bros. and Big Drew. From here I slid midtown to check out the opening of Jessica Rosemblum and John Vasquez’s new Friday night party at Temple. It lacked the energy I would expect to see on a Friday night, but maybe I shouldn’t be surprised due to many of the music industry clientele. But don’t get it twisted, the heavy hitters were in the building. Notables included Jay-Z, former record exec turned marketing exec, Steve Stoute, NFL Kev (Thanks Man), Slim Pickens (Black Diamonds), rapper Prodigy of Mobb Deep and music producer Alchemist. Word has it that Prodigy and Alchemist have recently wrapped up a deal with G-Unit Records and the next act to possibly sign with the 50 Cent label is M.O.P. Makes sense, didn’t you hear the new M.O.P./G-Unit song? But like I mentioned before about Miss Rosemblum’s parties, fellas, if you are not connected to anyone already inside, do not mistake this as your new Friday jump-off, you will get dissed. But if you’re a betting man, your best chance of entry is to find two of the baddest chicks you can and try your luck that way……. I hit the streets again on Monday where I stopped by The Penthouse (9fingerz) for Bad Boy rapper Black Rob’s b-day party. The Monday weekly has been moved here due to issues with Temple. Madame Miska, the female that everyone loves to hate, will celebrating her b-day this weekend so I wish you an early Happy B-Day. From here, I ran down to BLVD to check out n3P Media and Stag Ent.'s new weekly. I got there at the tail end so I missed most of the fanfare, but from what was left and from looking at the pictures, I forsee many memorable summer Monday nights here. Notables included Fabolous, BMF’s Blue Davinci, rapper Red Café and Helen (Blush-N Ent). Tuesday night I went to Club B.E.D. for rapper turned DJ D-Nice’s b-day party. I was looking forward to this party starting last Saturday after I saw D-Nice at the end of one of my favorite movies of all-time, “I’m Gonna Git You Sucka”. My man was donning the portable turntables with the MCM leather jump-set and it just made me realize how much things have changed in this rap game. I think back then artists were scholars of music, meaning they studied the art which is probably why D-Nice is such a great DJ today. You know you’re on top of your game when you have other DJs constantly asking you to hold your material because they have no idea where you got it from. Before I talk about the party, let me just mention that B.E.D. is probably one the best looking clubs in NYC. The bed themed decor is super sexy. This is an offspring of B.E.D. in Miami, which I understand looks even better. The club is also working on the roof deck which should be ready in about two weeks. I can already imagine how crazy that roof deck will be during summer night. I’m thinking the experience will be similar to that of the rooftop deck at Hotel Gansevoort over in the Meatpacking district. Back to the party at hand, it was like an old-school hip-hop reunion in here from the music to the attendees. All that’s was missing were the Cazelle's and thick gold chain ropes. Quality women were plentiful in here which is rare nowadays. All in all it was a beautiful look. Notables included, Violator’s Lighty Bros. Chris & Dave, Eric B. (Eric B. & Rakim), rapper Kwame, Miami Heat star Dwayne Wade, rapper Dres (Black Sheep), Jermaine Dupri (So So Def), Talib Kweli, comedian Tommy Davidson, Ovington Prophet (The Candy Store), Brandon (The Fue Network), Kenny Mac & Bobby Taylor (Direct Impulse), NFL Kev, rapper Dana Dane, Nick Storm (Hpnotiq), Gary (OBM), Derek Corley (Black Diamonds), DJ Cassidy, Huddy 6, Suga J., Big Drew (Remarkable Security), DJ Evil Dee and Farnsworth Bentley. I concluded my journey last night at what had to be one of the best parties in a long time, video director Little X’s B-day party at Ruby Falls. If you are not familiar with Little X, I consider him the godfather today’s video hoe (or video model if I need to be politically correct). Just check out Cisco's Thong Song remix video to see what this man does. Nowadays, the chicks in some of these rap videos have just as much fame if not more than their rapper counterparts. Little X was one of the first video directors to import from Canada these exotic looking chicks you see on your screen today, ala Melyssa Ford. He’s been responsible for setting many of these ladies' careers in motion. And you best believe they all paid homage last night. There had to be almost every major video chick from the last 2 years present to wish him a happy one. Don’t ask me their names because I don’t keep up with them like that. I got here towards the end the night as folks were leaving and it was still crazy inside. The venue had to turn the lights on for the fun to end and tell folks to leave. The notables that I saw were a mouthful and I’m sure I missed a bunch but here goes: Fabolous, Young Jeezy, DJ Clue, DJ Self, Jim Jones (Dipset), Zab Judah, AJ Calloway (106 & Park), DJ Envy, Enisha (Jingling Baby), Derek Corley (Black Diamonds), Tone Byrd, Keino, Mad Linx (BET), Young Gavin, Chris Lighty (Violator), Frank Thomas (NY Giants) and Chrystyle (Trademark Mgmt.). Just a side note: As I left the party, I saw the block littered with flyers and signs for Bow Wow and Young Jeezy’s new albums. Looking at this I thought: why is it when I go to these industry parties I always see the block littered with posters, flyers, signs, etc. for the latest albums about to drop? To me this doesn’t make much sense. If most of the patrons at these parties are in the music industry, are they going to buy the album? They probably already know the album is coming out and if they don’t know, once they find out, they’re going to call their connect at label XYZ to get it for free. That’s similar to me advertising a party to a bunch of promoters. They’ll go, but they won’t pay to get in, so where’s the return on investment? But what do I know. That’s just my 2 cents….. If you’re still reading, thanks for paying attention because this is quite lengthy. As always, feedback, hate mail, comments (What do you think about our Fashionista column?) and such can be directed to fcgnews@gmail.com. Until then, I’ll see you in the clubs.
